For the first time in its 123 year history, the Victorian Athletic League has appointed a female President, with board member Stephanie Spence (nee Mollica) stepping into the role vacated by Mathew Boyes.

Due to challenges with the league's previous IT provider, last season produced significant challenges in relation to the website, email systems and databases. We have since moved our material to a new provider and are working to rectify the issues to ensure easy access for registration and race entry. During this time of transition to a new web platform, please have patience with us. If the site doesn't work how it used to, let us know of any issues you have.

Once the 2018-19 season is underway, the league will be investigating the possibility of a new website and will be seeking your input to ensure we create a comprehensive and robust platform.

Make sure you regularly check out the news section on the VAL homepage to ensure you get all the updates including stewarding notices, rule changes and weather updates.

We are aiming to open registrations in early October.

The VAL are working on updates to the strategic plan to ensure the sport continues to succeed for many years to come. In September it will be available for viewing and any input or feedback from members of the VAL is welcomed.

Please note, the Northcote Gift has been renamed as the Waverley Gift. The club originally maintain the continuity of the name from the original location but after years of the events change of location to Waverley, they have decided to update the name accordingly.

The Ringwood Gift is back and is keen to make their 40th edition a big occasion! Stay tuned for more info on this event.

The Warrnambool Gift is now under a new committee and have already attracted numerous sponsors. Keep up to date with the Warrnambool Gift on their Facebook page.

Ararat has been a late withdrawal from the season due to lack of sponsorship. We're hopeful the event can get back on board in 2019-20.

The Marysville Gift are working hard to bring the event together and are scheduled to run on Sunday 16 December (previously Ararat). In addition to the VAL races, there will also be Little Athletics races and events for Athlete's with a disability. Follow there event of Facebook here.

The VAL is working closely with the NSWAL with the aim of reducing some administrative burdens and providing online support for athletes. Our short term goal is to manage the registrations and entries for all NSW athletes for the coming 2018-19 season for races both in NSW and Victoria. With the untimely issues surrounding the VAL website, the league is endeavoring to support the NSWAL and incorporate their administrative requirements as seamlessly as possible. We will be sharing more updates for NSW based athletes over the coming weeks.

You can also stay up to date with the NSWAL via their Facebook page.

There are a number of rule changes that are being finalised for the upcoming season. We will be publishing these updates in the next newsletter and posting on the Latest News section of the website.
